Outside burning beats inside. Every time.

There’ s a reason we build campfires outside and not in our living rooms. It’ s just a fact, there’ s a much safer, cleaner and more comfortable option. When it comes to wood-burning heat... we say take it outside.

Porch Perfect

Bring Spring to Your Space

By Christy Caplan

Finally, the sloshy rain and melting snow are giving way to the first few days of spring, making it the ideal time to turn your porch or deck into an outdoor oasis.

You can maximize a small space like a patio or balcony by adding decorative pots, filled with spring bulbs like daffodils to add color and hanging lanterns. And using plants and flowers as a natural barrier can make your outdoor space feel private; roses and lavender are two great examples.
Goals for Your Outdoor Sanctuary
If you hope to work on a design project for your patio to increase curb appeal, focus on a few specific areas rather than tackling the entire outdoor space.
If your goal is to make the space more inviting for your family, focus on plant selection, which will have an immediate impact. This way, you can start enjoying your outdoor area and create a peaceful retreat with a few creative touches.
Designing Your Space With a Plant Combo
Flowering trees are the first harbingers of spring in the garden, and if they are near your porch, they can create a magical scene.
To make your perfect retreat, consider combining bulbs, shrubs and perennials that love to put on a show in this season. Look for plants that bloom in succession to ensure your outdoor area stays vibrant. Many spring flowers not only brighten up outdoor porches but also create beautiful bouquets for your kitchen.
Here are some suggestions for spring shrubs, bulbs and flowers in areas near the porch, balcony or patio – whether large or small:
• Shrubs: azaleas, rhododendrons and peonies.
• Bulbs: tulips, daffodils and crocus.
• Flowers: snowdrops, hellebores and lilacs.
