Beauty of Clean Water

By Glenda Lehman Ervin
( SPONSORED CONTENT)— There are lots of things one can survive without( think of a Netflix subscription or new wood plank floors for your kitchen) but clean water is not one of them. If you are looking to source your own water, the following tips can help.
How Much Should You Keep?
Store at least one gallon of water per person, per day, for three days. This is water you will use during an emergency for drinking, cooking, brushing your teeth, among other things, but not for taking a long, hot bath. Ideally you would store a two-week supply and don’ t forget about the livestock on your property! The larger the animal, and the hotter it is outside, the more water the animal will require – do your research ahead of time.
Where to Get Water in an Emergency
Perhaps you were caught by surprise and now have to find clean water that won’ t make you sick. You can use Katadyn Emergency Drinking Water Tablets, which are specially formulated to remove bacteria from water. You can also use a portable filtration system like LifeStraw.
Keep Clean Water on Hand
Enjoy filtered drinking and cooking water anywhere with a gravity filter system— no plumbing or electricity required. Fill the upper chamber with untreated water and the filter reduces contaminants like chorine, organics and lead from your water.
Get Your Own Water
If you want to be truly self-sufficient, you will need a water pump to get fresh water right out of the ground. There are pumps for cisterns, shallow wells, deep wells, even tanks, ponds and rivers. This might take a little research on your part, but it will be well worth the effort because it is a long-term solution.
There is one other simple solution for water – gather it from melted snow or the rain. Just remember to filter it before drinking it because it could still contain contaminants.
